Your Morning Coffee Is Good For Your Mental Health

A recent Harvard study has shown that drinking coffee can decrease the risk for suicide. Approximately 100 million Americans drink coffee each day, and Public Health researchers wanted to know how drinking coffee affects people’s overall happiness. Researchers analyzed the data from a survey given to 208,424 coffee drinkers about their coffee habits. Over a span of about 15 years, the numbers showed that the rate of suicide among this group was less than half the number of suicides among people who do not drink coffee. This study concluded that people who drink 2-4 cups of coffee each day reduce the risk of suicide by 50%.  What Does Coffee Do to My Brain?  Researchers believe that coffee contributes to better mental health because of the biological changes that take place when you drink it. Coffee stimulates the nervous system. This makes the brain produce more dopamine and seratonin. These are neurotransmitters that increase your sense of well-being. Coffee also blocks adenosine, a process that not only keeps you more awake, but also improves your memory. The reduced adenosine decreases stress. Another study found that mice who were given coffee were able to cope much better when they were put in stressful situations, compared to the mice that were just given water.  Coffee is a Social Experience  Another reason why coffee can decrease stress and make you feel happier is the associations people have with drinking coffee. Getting coffee can be a chance to spend time with friends or take a break from work. When people consistently pair drinking coffee with the social experience and the relaxation, they will soon associate drinking coffee with experiences that make them happy. Drinking coffee will put them in a good mood.  All Things in Moderation  It is important to note that coffee intake should not be increased because someone is depressed. This can actually lead to more problems. If the individual is severely depressed, once they come off of the caffeine, his or her symptoms will be worse. Experts say that coffee, when ingested in moderation, can help to prevent the onset of symptoms of depression, but should not be the only source of treatment for depression.  So it turns out...

Four Nuts And Seeds That Are High In Omega-3 Fatty Acids

There is no controversy in the medical field about the nutritional necessity and benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, but the problem for many people is finding a good source of these nutrients. One food that contains a bountiful supply of the omega-3 fatty acids is fish, but not everyone loves fish enough to have it as a part of their daily diet. However, there are certain seeds and nuts that provide a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. The following are four that are the richest in omega-3 content. Pumpkin seeds These seeds are not only a great addition to your diet for omega-3 fatty acids, but they are available in snack size packages. You can easily take them to work or any other place you go for a convenient and healthy snack. Simply grab a bag of ready-to-eat pumpkin seeds, and you are on your way. Some people love pumpkin seeds from the first time they eat them. For others, it is an acquired taste, but once you have developed a taste for these seeds, you may find them to be your new favorite snack. Walnuts These are known as the king of nuts for omega-3 fatty acids content. They are also inexpensive, at least when you buy them still in the shell. These nuts are an excellent replacement for chips as a snack, but you will need to invest in a nutcracker. You can enjoy eating these nuts at home while watching your favorite television shows. Chia seeds Most people are not familiar with these seeds, but their nutritional value is well known to nutritionists. Among seeds, these are not only rich in Omega-3s but they have high fiber content as well. The only drawback to chia seeds is that because most people are not aware of their dietary value, they are not always found at your local supermarket. You can, however, find them at organic food stores, both locally and online at sites like www.sincerelynuts.com. Flax seeds These seeds are among the highest source of omega-3 fatty acids. They can be eaten by themselves, but they are popularly used in soups and salads. You can also bake with them. Adding them to...

Incorporating Chia Seeds Into A Healthy Diet: Breakfasts, Breads, And Even Meatloaf

You’ve probably heard about chia seeds by now – how they are filled with nutrients and antioxidants, how they can boost your protein and fiber intakes to help you feel full longer. But while there are people out there on chia seed diets who simply spoon chia seeds into their mouths, there’s no need to be so restrictive to get your health benefits. Incorporating chia seeds into a healthy diet is easier than you might think. Add To Breakfast Staples It’s no secret that breakfast is the most important part of the day; eat a nutritious, filling breakfast, and you’ll have more energy and be less tempted to snack during the day. Chia seeds make an excellent addition to healthy breakfast staples like oatmeal, yogurt, and smoothies – you can even sprinkle them on cereal. Their ability to expand in the stomach to help you feel full makes them well-suited to use at breakfast. If this is your goal, remember to keep them whole – if you are making smoothies, mix them in at the end. Bake Into Breads Think of all the kinds of breads that taste good with nuts – banana bread, zucchini bread, and avocado bread, to name a few. Whole chia seeds work well in all of these breads, adding balanced nutrition and a subtly nutty flavor. Their taste is milder than the nuts called for in these recipes, so if you like the taste of nuts, use them as an addition rather than a replacement. They are mild enough to be baked into ordinary whole-grain breads as well, adding a little depth of flavor without being at all overpowering. In white breads, you are likely to notice their flavor as the other ingredients are relatively tasteless – for a healthy diet, you’re better off replacing white bread with whole-grain bread anyway. Use To Replace Eggs Chia seeds can also be used as an egg substitute. This is very helpful for making recipes vegan or to add chia seeds to baked goods like pancakes or muffins. It’s also a way to add the nutritional benefits of chia seeds to family favorites like meatballs and meatloaf, where egg is used as...

How To Choose Your Perfect Wedding Venue

For many women, a wedding is something they look forward to their entire lives. It signifies the beginning of a happy union and shows your tastes. When you get engaged, you want your wedding to reflect your personality and provide memories for years to come. A major factor that determines how your wedding day will proceed is the venue; it sets the tone for the entire day. But how can you narrow down a long list of choices? Consider these factors when choosing your wedding venue.  Purpose First, determine what purpose your wedding venue will serve. If you plan to get married in a church, you might only need to rent out a reception hall for the reception. If you choose to do a destination wedding, the venue may need to be a grand hotel in the middle of town with guest rooms and a large room for the reception. Or if you plan to combine locations for the vows and after-nuptial celebration, you’ll need a larger venue so guests can be ushered to different locations.  Location Next, think about location. Do you want to have a small wedding in the far-away country where you and your fiance met? Or will you be married in your hometown? You may be able to find a perfect location an hour or so away from your home. Whichever location you choose, plan around the travel arrangements of wedding guests. They’ll need to take time off of work if they need to fly somewhere, or plan extra driving time for a venue that’s a few hours away. Find a reception hall that is within 20-30 minutes of a major airport to be considerate of out-of-town guests. Also, if your venue is not right off the freeway, provide a printed out map in the wedding invitation so guests don’t get lost.  Indoor or Outdoor Another consideration when picking a wedding venue is whether the reception will be held indoors or outdoors. If you’ve always dreamed of an outdoor wedding, choose a wedding venue with a grand garden that can be dressed up with twinkle lights and large white tents. Maybe you plan to marry in the winter months and...
